Over the past year Joplin Lawyers has been recognised with a number of awards in our local community. For this recognition we are truly grateful.
I have been asked by many people how I have created the Joplin Lawyers brand.
In 2013 I decided to take a leap and open my own firm. For the first time in a long time I had to truly believe in myself and in my vision. I didn’t want to create just another law firm, I wanted a different culture. One that actually empowered staff and clients, first of all though, I had to empower myself.
Throughout my career as a lawyer I had noticed that there were very few law firms servicing women, especially those effected by family violence and family law matters. This was generally due to the fact women did not have the ability to pay legal fees, therefore had limited access to quality legal advice. Being able to provide a legal service for these women was ideal for me as I have always believed that women should help each other rise.
Joplin Lawyers was founded on the hope and belief that I could assist other women in my community at their hardest times.
So I did it, I opened the doors of Joplin Lawyers on 9 September 2013. Having the “Lady Justice” as my logo was fitting for my passion and the business I was wanting to create. Branding is so much more then a logo, it is about belief, an idea and a common goal.
Joplin Lawyers Belief: Since I was a little girl I have always believed and been passionate about gender equality, I have always believed that men and women are equal. I don’t believe we are same, nor do I believe that any two people are the same, but I believe we are equal and should be afforded the same opportunities regardless of our gender.
Joplin Lawyers Idea: The idea of Joplin Lawyers was to be the voice for those women in our community that weren’t strong enough or were to scared to have voice. To build a firm that was a safe haven to all as soon as they walked through the door.
Joplin Lawyers Goal: The goal at Joplin Lawyers is to empower and believe in the women in our community. To employ talented women, to believe in our colleagues and to nurture and watch them grow into their own person and lawyer. Amazing things happen when women come together and believe in each other.
On the first day I opened the doors of Joplin Lawyers, I can’t even begin to stress to you the self-doubt that I had. My mother was sitting with me at the firm and at 10:00am I turned to her and said “Oh god mum, this could be a terrible mistake” my mother turned to me and said “Those that reach touch the stars”. Words I needed to hear, and words that have stuck with me since.
By 2:00pm, I had three new clients and by the end of the week I had opened ten new files. We all get scared and we all have self-doubt, but to really believe in yourself is rewarding in so many ways.
Joplin Lawyers currently employs 14 female lawyers and support staff. I have a little saying I like to tell my colleagues when they are having self-doubt “If you hang out with me to long, I’ll brainwash you into believing yourself and knowing you can achieve anything”.
I am very fortunate that I get to work with magnificent women. They are both professionally and personally talented, kind, empathetic and committed to assisting our community as a whole. I honestly believe in everything my staff do and achieve. I consider myself very lucky and thankful to engage and work with these women on a daily basis.
Joplin Lawyers has offices in Singleton, Rutherford, Muswellbrook and Maitland. We also attend to weekly appointments in Scone and Tamworth.
Joplin Lawyers is regional law firm. Given the fact I grew up in regional NSW, one of my dreams as a child was to one day make a difference and contribute to the regional community. Regional Australia is rich in community spirit and resilience. I adore the country mentality of everyone rolling their sleeves up and helping each other. This alone is another reason why Joplin Lawyers prospers. We always have had the backing of our local communities, the community believes in the services that we provide.
I found that the Joplin Lawyers community as a whole want to eradicate family violence to ensure individuals and families feel safe in the community.
The moral of this story is that you should always believe in your vision, believe in your dreams but more importantly believe in yourself.
